Mixes for Balanced Feed
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and are essential for growth, specific body functions and/or milk/egg production.
The first limiting amino acid is lysine. Quantities of subsequent limiting amino acids, e.g. methionine, threonine, tryptophan and valin, are expressed as ratios of lysine.
The supply (from feed ingredients) and the requirements for amino acids is expressed in terms of intestinally digestible amino acids. For several decades, the animal feed industry makes use of synthetic free amino acids to achieve the required supply in a cost-effective manner. Furthermore, less crude protein is then required in the feed, which is favourable for the intestinal health of the animal and the environment.
